You don't need to be a food critic to describe your meal accurately! A series of activities introduce learners to vivid adjectives when writing about the taste, smell, and feel of food. After working with word choice, parts of a sentence, and adverbs of frequency, they write a description of a food without naming what the food is.

Instructional Ideas
  • Have class members work through the packet over the course of a week in small groups or with an instructional aide
  • Invite learners to bring in the foods that they describe in their writing
Classroom Considerations
  • Helpful for both mainstream classes and English learners
  • Much of the packet is in color; consider projecting it on the board to prevent copying in black and white, as pupils need to write about how the foods actually look
