Picture your class members as photojournalists! Using their interview with a senior as a starting point, would-be photojournalists begin developing an outline for their article by examining their notes from the interview, gathering additional campus photos, and captioning these images. Pupils create word clouds, examine several articles, discuss their findings with a partner, and then create their outline.

Instructional Ideas

  • Before the lesson, instructors need to copy the Mentimeter presentation to their account and update the link in the lesson slides

Classroom Considerations

  • Third of four lessons in the unit
  • Lessons are cumulative and designed to be presented in order
  • Projection equipment required for the slide show and the video
  • Class members require access to GoPros or other cameras
  • Jordan Miller, the Salt Lake Tribune reporter, speaks very rapidly and, at times, is difficult to understand; pause the video frequently to permit viewers to ask questions

Pros

  • The Wakelet link provides writers with a framework for developing their story

Cons

  • None
