Geometry Unit 10: Surface Area and Volume

Geometry Unit 10 contains six resources that cover surface area and volume. Scholars first watch a video explaining the basic terminology of three-dimensional figures, such as prisms, lateral edges, bases, and faces. They then learn how to calculate prisms and cylinders' lateral and surface areas. The second video focuses on the surface area of pyramids and cones. Young mathematicians learn to calculate surface area by determining the area of different-shaped bases, including regular polygons, and adding the lateral area. Next, pupils learn the formulas for finding the volume of prisms and cylinders by watching a video. They see several examples where the narrator calculates the volume of given solids. Learners also watch an educational video to learn about the formulas for the volume of pyramids and cones. They see several worked-out examples completed by the narrator. The fifth of six parts in the unit has pupils learn how to calculate both quantities for spheres. They watch as the narrator works through several problems to understand the content better. Finally, scholars watch a video that reviews the surface area and volume of prisms, cylinders, cones, pyramids, and spheres. They then complete a worksheet of problems on their own for practice. Each lesson includes an instructional video, a teacher reference, practice packets with answer keys, and a corrective assignment for extra practice.
