Lesson Plan

Deconstructing Reconstruction: The Reconstruction Era

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet

High schoolers examine the Reconstruction programs instituted following the American Civil War, the potential for change these efforts offered, and the realities that occurred. Guided by a PowerPoint presentation, class members read a letter from a man formerly enslaved and engage in a jigsaw activity where they share what they have learned from readings. To conclude the lesson, individuals complete an Exit Ticket summarizing what they learned about the Reconstruction Era.
