The Lessons of 1704

Collector: Ann V.

The eight lessons in the inquiry-based media literacy unit “The Lessons of 1704” introduce upper elementary scholars to the factors that contributed to the growth of inter-group hostilities among the French, English, and Native Americans in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The lessons focus on conflicts in and around Deerfield, Massachusetts, the homeland of the Pocumtuck. Pupils learn basic research skills and how to read primary and secondary sources.
