The five lessons in Chapter 2 ask fifth graders to use their observation skills to identify substances. They dissolve known and unknown substances to determine the identity of the mystery substances. Next, learners investigate the properties of different liquids as they interact with various types of paper. Pupils then mix different-colored solutions, record their observations, and use their observations to identify an unknown liquid. A challenging lesson has learners experiment with different materials to compare their densities. They learn that increasing or decreasing the amount of the material doesn't change its density. Finally, young scientists conduct an experiment to study the relationship between weight and density. They compare the weights of liquid samples of different substances and predict how their densities are related.
