What is that out in the water on the horizon? Teams work together to study the coastline using maps to determine the best and worst locations to place an offshore wind farm. The teams then build a scale model wind farm to see what it would appear like from the shoreline. This is instructional activity 17 of a 19-part series.

Instructional Ideas
- If using this resource in a math class, remove the scaffolding in worksheet two for the calculations
Classroom Considerations
- Maps should be copied or printed in color
- Articles about offshore wind farms that have opposing view points will be needed
Pros
- The worksheets provide the steps needed in order to determine the scale of the models
- Answer keys are provided
Cons
- The graphs of seabird foraging ranges seem to be incorrect; the farther from shore, the fewer birds should be found, but the graphs say just the opposite
