How did early maps show the mapmakers' perception of the known world? Early mapmakers used maps drawn from coastal explorations, land travels, and even information heard word of mouth from American Indians or from colonists or traders. These mapmakers did not have the electronic technology of satellite imagery or global positioning devices we readily use today. This lesson will help students understand how maps were created to show land and water features as men explored the vast lands of the New World.
