Instructional Ideas

  • Have kids work in groups to come up with their math stories, and then act them out in front of the class
  • Let kids publish their stories by printing them up, complete with the equation, and have their classmates solve the problem

Classroom Considerations

  • You can use different manipulatives if you don't want to use candy in class
  • Lesson uses That's What Leprechauns Do by Eve Bunting and Emily Arnold, but it is an optional part of the lesson if you can't get the book (you could use any other book about leprechauns, or no book at all)

Pros

  • Includes a worksheet for kids to map out their story and equation
  • Provides teachers with all steps of the lesson, including strategies for direct and guided instruction

Cons

  • None
