Pbs Learning Media: The Hound of the Baskervilles 3: The Seance

Curated by ACT

Students explore the advantages and disadvantages of adapting a classic work for the screen in this excerpt from Masterpiece's 2002 version of The Hound of the Baskervilles. Using a scene that was created especially for the film, students also learn about the themes of Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous Sherlock Holmes stories-the struggle between the rational and the irrational, and the value of scientific thought versus the power of legend and superstition. See Teaching Tips for how to use the video in the classroom. This resource is part of the Masterpiece Collection. [1:54]
