Fine the normality of fall measurements. Pairs collect measurements of fall leaves and one other fall object. Using the measurements, the groups determine the descriptive statistics for the object and using the Empirical Rule, figure out whether the collected data fits a normal distribution or not. The teams write reports including the statistics, a graphical display, and conclusions on whether the measurements are normally distributed.

Instructional Ideas

  • Review ways to represent data to help determine whether it is normal

Classroom Considerations

  • Requires a collection of 100 leaves and a large sample of a second object of the class members' choosing
