Lesson Plan

Introduction to Expository Writing

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet

Move beyond the five-paragraph essay with a lesson introducing young writers to various forms of expository writing. Class members examine description, cause and effect, problem solution, sequence, and comparison forms. They create an expository writing reference sheet to guide them in future writings. To complete the lesson, each class member selects one form and crafts an expository essay in response to a writing prompt.
