Scholars examine the letter shape and listen to you pronounce the /aaa/ sound. As you explain how this sound is made, they try it out on their own. Brainstorm words that begin with this phoneme and challenge kids to a fast-thinking letter-recognition game. Pupils watch as you point to letters one at a time; if you point to an a they say its sound. For all other letters, they stay silent.
