Instructional Ideas

  • Send picture cards home to families, and encourage them to create more picture cards for any other important details that their children should remember (e.g. a clock noting when school begins and ends, lunch and snack, a teacher they can approach for help, etc.)

Classroom Considerations

  • The "finished pocket" card is intended to remind special education students to place their picture cards in an envelope after they have completed a certain stage of a task. This helps reduce anxiety over multi-step processes and creates safe, structured routines for learners

Pros

  • Cards refer to essential school landmarks, items, and processes (i.e. crayons, pencils, backpack, bus, circle time, etc.)
  • Also includes additional set of picture cards, but with no words (see included materials)

Cons

  • None
