Kindergartners identify geometric shapes by planting a fall garden. They start their seeds in containers that have different shapes, and keep track of their plants based on those shapes. This brilliantly designed and incredibly thorough lesson plan combines geometry and gardening. It has all of the worksheets and instructions you need to successfully implement the tasks with your youngsters. A rubric to judge student learning is also included at the end of the plan. • If you don't have the space or time for a class garden, create a pretend garden on a bulletin board with paper or felt

Classroom Considerations

• End of the lesson prompts kids to eat the kinds of vegetables that were planted in the garden; have additional vegetables ready if your class garden isn't ready yet
