Esa/hubble: Constellation Corvus [Annotated] (Ground Based Image)

Deep ground-based image with location of HDF South.

This ground-based image of the Cygnus Loop measures 3 x 2 degrees and was taken with the Oschin Schmidt Telescope and scanned as part of the Digitized Sky Survey.

A wide-field view of the constellation of Ursa Major. The galaxy studied by Hubble astronomers, I Zwicky 18, is located to the right of the asterism seen in this image known as "The Plough" or the "Big Dipper".

The galaxy Messier 82 is located 12 million light-years away. It appears high in the northern spring sky in the direction of the constellation Ursa Major, the Great Bear. Here Ursa Major is seen in a ground-based image taken by Akira Fujii.

In this ground-based image the constellation Coma Berenices is on the lower left.

The two-colour image shows an overview of the full Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) and was composed from two images from the Digitized Sky Survey 2. The field of view is slightly larger than 3.5.
