As your youngsters begin to recognize the letters of the alphabet and their correponsding sounds, there are some they will be more familiar with than others. Cement their letter associations using this quick strategy, shown here with the letter a. You will need a stack of letter cards, half with the letter a and the other with letters scholars are less familiar with. As each card is held up, scholars say either "/aa/" or "not /aa/" to indicate the letter they see. Challenge them to move faster and add more letters they can identify as skills progress. Letter cards are provided for printing.
