Instructional Ideas

  • Increase student engagement during a life science lesson on food webs with this collaborative activity
  • Print out pictures of plants and animals unique to your region to use in place of those provided by this resource
  • Help ensure student participation by limiting groups to just two or three students
  • Perform a gallery walk of your class's final posters, using sticky notes to provide feedback and ask questions about each other's work

Classroom Considerations

  • The included images are of plants and animals native to Tulare county in California, but this resource can be used regardless of your geographic location
  • Resource states that students will be provided with poster boards for creating their food webs, but large sheets of construction paper will work just fine

Pros

  • Colorful pictures of 19 plants and animals are included for children to use when creating food webs
  • Clear step-by-step instructions are provided for completing the food web activity

Cons

  • None
