Do research projects at your school look like a class of eighth graders staring at a blank screen? Use the Big 6 research method to guide middle schoolers through the process of finding a topic, searching for and evaluating sources, locating relevant information, and synthesizing it all into a multimedia presentation. The unit plan also invites peers to assess presentations they've seen, and to judge the information-gathering process itself.

Classroom Considerations

  • Based on the Dream of a Nation text and the Big 6 reseach process, but can be easily modified to fit the needs of your curriculum
  • Lesson states that it will take two to five weeks to complete the project, based on the steps you choose to include

Pros
