Instructional Ideas

  • Have kids design a Civil War era newspaper, complete with updates from the war, advertisements of the time, and pictures they find online, and include the interview with Abraham Lincoln on the front page
  • Brainstorm questions as a class, and pair class members to interview each other, with one learner role-playing of Abraham Lincoln
  • Use as a short writing prompt or warm-up assignment during your Civil War unit

Classroom Considerations

  • Designed for younger learners, but you could use the assignment with older students and with more advanced extension activities
  • Offers an answer key, but it only clarifies that answers are learners' choice
  • Header of the worksheet is in color, but printing in black and white shouldn't affect understanding

Pros

  • A great way to commemorate President's Day
  • Encourages learners to use their research and creativity in one assignment

Cons

  • None
