In this lesson, Dr. Seuss' book, If I Ran the Zoo, is used as the mentor text for its use of adverbial phrases. After reading the mentor text, learners will use click the buttons with the words "Who", "What", "When", and "Where" until they find enough words to form a sentence that they like. Then students will write a story based on the new sentence and place it anywhere in the story. As the learners write, students will alternate writing long and short sentences, and after publishing, learners will attempt to find the sentence generated by the buttons. [Requires Adobe Reader.]
