William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar: Fate versus Free Will

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet

Tenth graders explore Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. After reading specific scenes, they brainstorm and discuss free will. Students observe a clip from the Dr. Phil television show entitled, "Afraid to Age" and make connections from the quotes given in the television show and quotes from Caesar and Cassius about aging. Students compare and contrast the definitions of fate and free will. They discuss how aging can be a matter of fate and of free will.
