Why Is It Called an Ordered Pair?

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet

Order is important! An ordered pair is comprised of an x-value, and a y-value. The x-value always comes first. This ordered pair represents a point on a coordinate plane. If the order of the x-value and the y-value are switched then they will represent a different point on the graph. So make sure the order of the values is always (x, y).
