Segmenting and blending phonemes helps budding readers understand words. Use this strategy in an engaging game where partners test each other's auditory processing using familiar words. Using picture cards and a chart (included), partners take turns drawing cards. They say the word to themselves, then segment it for their classmate to hear. The classmate must blend the phonemes to say the word. If they get it correct, they put pennies into a treasure chest. Both partners chart the number of phonemes for the word on their chart. There are two, three, and four-phoneme word cards.
