Towson University: Avoiding Misplaced and Dangling Modifiers

Curated by ACT

Misplaced modifiers can cause both confusion and laughter on the part of a reader. You probably want to avoid either response, so use this site to learn what misplaced and dangling modifiers are, as well as how to avoid them in your writing. The site also offers two exercises and a post test. While the explanations and examples on the site would be useful for mid- to upper elementary students, the exercises and test are more suited to high school.
