Two sequential parts to this activity introduce your class to the electromagnetic spectrum, the ability to absorb radiant energy, and the pigments in leaves that are responsible for collecting sunlight to be used in the photosynthetic process. Each part includes background reading, a hands-on inquiry activity, and critical thinking questions to answer. If you have been teaching science for a while, the activities will be familiar to you, but the detailed explanations and student resources are a tremendous bonus!
