Instructional Ideas

  • Have students use highlighters to identify key terms when translating words to equations
  • Have a timer for each group during the round table activities
  • Carefully assign groups for each activity so that the same students are not always together

Classroom Considerations

  • Gather materials and prepare the activities prior to the day of the lesson
  • Outline the estimated time to complete each activity to determine if all of the lesson can be completed in the stated time
  • Have students divided into groups prior to the beginning of the lesson
  • Determine if each learner will need a copy of all sheets or if some activities only require each group to have a copy

Pros

  • Lessons include lots of details
  • All required masters for copies are included
  • Many opportunities to adjust or adapt for a class's specific needs

Cons

  • Lesson includes some confusing text due to mechanics and usage errors
  • Lessons require a lot of materials and preparation
  • Stated times may not be adequate to thoroughly carry out activities assigned to one class period
