Sharing Information: Schools, Police and FERPA

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet

Students research Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), interview school officials to see how FERPA is interpreted in local schools, speak with community journalists to find out if they have ever had a hard time getting information from school district, and examine how Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is used to seek such information. Students then prepare oral presentation to help future journalists examine the act.
