Shape Sort

Sorting is a great way to familiarize learners with basic shapes in this partner activity. Pairs have sixteen shape cards with various sizes and types of triangles, rectangles, hexagons, and squares. They have four category cards in which to place their cards, each bearing the name of one of the shapes. After sorting, learners are prompted to draw an image of how they sorted the cards. Consider not providing the name labels at first, and challenging learners to recognize shape patterns.
