School-Home Links: Reading for New Words

In this unusual word and parent communication learning exercise, students read a newspaper, magazine, or book then make a list of some new, unusual, or interesting words they found while reading. Students write down a way to find the meaning of these words. Finally, students write a story using these new words and read it aloud to their family. Parents or guardians must sign this learning exercise.
