Instructional Ideas

  • Draft an example narrative or begin the lesson descriptively telling a story about a scent and the memory it created for you
  • Add a sheet of paper or encourage class members to type their responses if the worksheet does not provide enough space
  • Display finished products at Back-to-School Night or Open House for families to read and enjoy

Classroom Considerations

  • Take into account classroom allergies and pupils that are extra sensitive to smells prior to choosing items with strong scents
  • Requires copies and a variety of items that smell
  • Scholars should be familiar with writing a personal narrative, the present tense, and adverbs
  • Space to write may be limited for those with large printing or tend to write extensively
  • This resource is only available on an unencrypted HTTP website. It should be fine for general use, but don’t use it to share any personally identifiable information

Pros

  • Includes one page detailing the teacher's reason to assign the page and process for introducing it
  • Challenges learners to practice their grammar skills, including using adverbs and the present tense
