After listening to the wonderful book, A Chair for my Mother, young mathematicians engage in an awesome lesson plan about coins and the value of saving money. The lesson plan is done in a classic style - everything is beautifully organized, and there are activities and worksheets in the plan that support learning. I can't recommend this lesson plan highly enough. I love how it combines literature and mathematics!
