Students listen to a recording of "Sakura" and determine where it is from. In this global sound instructional activity, students view pictures of cherry blossoms and connect its significance to Japanese culture. Students sing the score while understanding that the song is written specifically according to the kumoijoshi scale. Students determine which notes are being played by which instruments. Lastly students create an improvisation and perform it for the class.
