Rough or Soft?

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet

When a child has some vision they need to be encouraged to use it in a positive and stimulating way. To better understand which types of tactile reinforcers your learner likes best; you'll rub different textured objects on his/her arm and look for cues that indicate enjoyment. You'll systematically record their responses and then use the preferred tactile stimulus as an in-class reinforcer. Note: This systematic evaluation of preferred reinforcers would also work well with your learners with autism.
