Riddles can be a fun way to practice word decoding. Scholars read two riddles to determine the word each is referencing. These riddles are based on word analysis to build letters one at a time rather than big-picture idea concepts. Writers get to finish one that has been started and are encouraged to create an entire riddle on their own. Consider having them do this and switch with a partner to solve.
