Learners investigate the properties of elements and periodicity. In this periodicity lesson plan, students observe a bag of 'elements' which are different fruits and classify them in groups and periods, show the periodic relationships and show their similar physical and chemical properties. They use spectrum tubes and diffraction gratings to differentiate between elements, identify their atomic masses and show how the arrangement in the periodic table was determined.
