He doesn't usually talk life science, but here, Steve Spangler discusses the damage that the mountain pine beetle is causing in the forests. He shows cross sections of affected tree trunks where a fungus that the beetle introduces prevents water from traveling up the xylem to nourish the tree. Then, with his usual flare, Steve demonstrates the fire danger posed by the now dry, oxygen-surrounded, spore-laden branches.
