Modern World History: World War I

In this textbook unit, students learn about the multiple causes of World War I, the dramatic and devastating changes in warfare, and the peace that remapped much of Europe. Along the way, they will evaluate this central question: Was World War I a just war? To answer this, they will learn the history of the war and evaluate it according to a set of moral principles. The just war tradition has evolved over the course of centuries to help leaders determine when a war is justified. The unit can be navigated through the menu at the top of the page.
