Modern World History: Pre Industrial Society

Curated by ACT

In this textbook unit, students learn about what society and the standard of living were like prior to the Industrial Revolution. The average peasant grew their food and kept farm animals. Change took place much more slowly, but the rate of mortality was high. Few people had extra wealth beyond meeting basic needs. As European cities grew and learning and innovation flourished, however, the seeds of the Industrial Revolution were sewn. With the development of banking institutions and trade between countries and advances in agriculture, the Industrial Revolution spread to England and America.
