In this modeling a planetary nebula instructional activity, learners use a diagram to calculate the intensity at different radii from the center of the nebula. Students use the Pythagorean Theorem to determine the distance between two points on the diagram, they calculate 2 differentials and they integrate and plot a function in order to determine if the nebula follows a constant-density shell model.
