First graders learn factual information about the moon and how light creates shadows. Noting that authors oftentimes use their imaginations to create stories, 1st graders explore how misconceptions and misunderstandings can often be cleared up by gaining knowledge through observations or reading about others people's findings. They begin to use evidence to investigate what is real and what is imaginary in various tales about the moon.
