High schoolers are given the difintion of translational motion, which is the object in motion stays in motion. If you are in a car and the car stops, you keep moving. They then discuss rotational motion, which is a spinning object continues to spin. That is why we can coast on our bicycles. They are given the equation for rotational interia and the equation for angular momentum. Students are then given examples of each to solve.
