Introduction to Literacy Criticism

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet
This Introduction to Literacy Criticism lesson plan also includes:
  • Unit Overview
  • The Short Story - Literacy Support: Reciprocal Teaching
  • Short Story Unit Final Assessments
  • Join to access all included materials

As learners continue to examine a short story of their choice, they take some time to look at analysis completed by others on the same story. In the eleventh lesson in a series of fourteen, pupils explore various sites for literary criticism to summarize and reflect upon by blogging specific information listed in the plan. This is mostly self-guided work, and will require access to the Internet for all pupils during class.

Classroom Considerations

  • Not all of the links to sites on literary criticism work or are available to everyone; make sure to click through to find the ones that do work for you, and consider adding a few of your own library resources
  • Note that this lesson is part of a series and some of the elements, such as the ongoing blogging project are described in more detail in other lessons; see the materials for assessment details and a unit overview

Pros

  • Requires learners to use technology to find articles and broadcast their own writing

Cons

  • The lesson procedures are very brief, and you'll likely have to build in more scaffolding in order to see positive results from your pupils
