Discover that Kenyan children aren't much different from your young scholars as they read Kelly Cunnane's story For You are a Kenyan Child. This story is an excellent resource for vocabulary in context, and introduces new words including: plump, remind, and stray (all three of which include instructional guidance here). Challenge kids to utilize context clues as they listen for the words in the story. Use the comprehension questions at any point to get readers making connections to outside concepts and solidify word meanings. The graphic organizers may be an excellent way to synthesize this study, especially for visual learners.
