Human Graphing Activity

Take graphing outside and make a giant coordinate plane to plot your human points. Young graphers are each given a coordinate for a particular shape and asked to make the geometrical shapes one by one. Those not plotted are to write down and graph on the provided worksheet.

Instructional Ideas

  • Incorporate translations while learners are being graphed
  • Have the class calculate the distance between points, or the area as an extension activity
  • Some students can do multiple shapes if the class size is smaller
  • Use chalk instead of rope for the coordinate plane

Classroom Considerations

  • Coordinates for the problems and graph paper only use the first quadrant
  • Laminating cards prior to use is recommended
