Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet

Maybe the world wasn't built in a day but kids can certainly assemble a globe in one class period using the images provided by these templates. Cut, fold, piece, glue, and voila!

Instructional Ideas

  • Enlarge the templates and print on card stock for a more sturdy globe
  • Use the activity as an exercise in reading and following directions
  • Segue into a study of lines of longitude and latitude or great circle airline routes
  • Reverse the process and provide each class member with an inexpensive ball, ask them to create an illustration on the sphere, direct them to create incisions so that the ball can be stretched out flat, and then have them observe what happens to their illustration

Pros

  • An inexpensive way to provide each class member with a globe
  • A neat way to prove the world is not flat

Cons

  • Minimal directions
  • The country names are difficult to read unless the template is enlarged
