Instructional Ideas

  • Make a vocabulary chart; define words as a whole group as you proceed through the lesson or unit
  • List the guiding questions for young scientists to know the goal of activity
  • Introduce and teach the water cycle simultaneously
  • Have pupils make a water diary for a week listing the times they drink water, cook with water, use water, shower, etc. then, as a class compare

Classroom Considerations

  • Excellent activity for those learners who live in dry climates or are currently underwater drought advisory
  • Will need a few apples to be donated for the extended activities listed on the resource
  • Consider projecting the slide of Distribution of Earth's Water, rather than making copies
  • Have a local meterologist or scientist visit and discuss what is causing rain in some areas but not others

Pros

  • Resource is great for discussion/engagement questions
  • Good for critical thinking
  • Children need to learn to value Earth's natural resource, water
