Drinking mercury did not prolong the life of Shi Huangdi, the first emperor of China and architect of the vision for The Great Wall. Even his vast army of Terra Cotta Warriors could not hold his kingdom together after his death but the technologies developed during his reign have long endured. The blast furnace kilns that gave birth to his Ghost Army are still used today in foundries and artist studios.
