Instructional Ideas

  • Allow students to complete this scavenger hunt with a partner
  • Create a worksheet with sentence frames like "________ are red," that allows students to record the different objects they find during scavenger hunt.
  • Have the class reflect on their learning by writing questions on the backs of the clue cards pertaining to topics covered during the year

Classroom Considerations

  • This activity can be performed in the classroom or outdoors on the school playground
  • Be sure students are clear that they are to leave the clue cards where they find them, otherwise the rest of the class will not be able to complete the hunt

Pros

  • Large colored-coded font is used to print the color words on each clue card, making them easy for young children to identify
  • Resource offers suggestions for fun activities that can be used to wrap up the scavenger hunt

Cons

  • There are some minor grammatical errors in the clue cards, but they shouldn't affect children's understanding of the clues
