Instructional Ideas

  • Start with scientific method, that way young scientists have a goal
  • Experiment would be best to explore near the end of day, but with enough time to discuss and record observations
  • Can also use this resource when discussing or reviewing body digestive systems

Classroom Considerations

  • This is part three of a series; the dissection of owl pellets can be omitted from the series if time does not allow
  • Need to order the pellets immediately so that they arrive with plenty of time
  • Make sure young scientists wear gloves and give each one a paper plate to hold the pellet

Pros

  • Task can easily be adapted to language other than English
  • Resource lists other extension ideas

Cons

  • None
